(21:30) Tells us of the 20th century scientific theory "Big Bang"..

(21:32) Tells us of the 20th century scientific fact about "the atmosphere that protects earth from the sun's radiation and space meteorites"

Pikthall [al-Anbiya' 21:30] Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then We parted them, ....

Ibn Abbas interruption: The heavens and the earth were stacked to each other and Allah raise up the heavens, and put down the earth.

We should look to the beginning of the verse:

Have not those who disbelieve known that ...

Allah challenge the disbeliver of Mecca (since the surah is Meccain) to look to his wonders works, how he part the heavens and earth. That mean that these disbeliver know that the heaven and earth was one piece. Because it dose not make sense to challenge them with a modern theory they never heard about, actually if they do not know this, they will accuse Mohammed that he is a lunatic.

So if they are aware about such theory or story, then it make sense to Mohammed to refer to Allah wonders works, and say look to his power and authority.

Beside this verse do not show any kind of explosion.

Actually we should look to the next verses to understand the Quranic image of the relationship between the heavens and earth.

Pikthall [al-Anbiya' 21:30] ... the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then We parted them, ...

Pikthall [al-Anbiya' 21:31] And We have placed in the earth firm hills [mountains] lest it quake with them, ...

Pikthall [al-Anbiya' 21:32] And we have made the sky a roof withheld (from them)...

Shakir [ar-Ra`d 13:2] Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you see ...

It look like a very primitive image on the relationship between the heavens and earth.

After Allah raise up the heavens on unseen pillars, and put down the earth, he put the mountains on the earth to not quake, like putting a heavy thing on a piece of paper to not fly?! Allah make the sky a roof withheld to not fall on people head?! How he do so? By putting the heavens on unseen pillars!! It look like a builder point of view?!

People how urge about the skies mentioned here as an atmosphere. I challenge them to look to the above 4 verses, and try to understand the relationships which have been established between the heavens and earth by the unseen pillars. The roof is withheld because it is based on unseen pillars.

To cut the argument lets have a look on this verse, which clear the relationship between the earth and the skies.

Shakir [Luqman 31:10] He created the heavens without pillars as you see them, and put mountains upon the earth lest it might convulse [quake] with you ...

We see here the relationship more clearer here. Allah create his support for the heavens by creating unseen pillars so he could put the heavens on it. He put the mountains on the earth to not convulse or quake with people.
