(41:11) Tells us of the 20th century scientific fact that the universe was gas before its creation.

Pickthall [41:11] Then turned He to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto the earth: Come both of you, willingly or loth. They said: We come, obedient.

The theory says that the universe (including earth) was gas before the creation. In this verse it talks about the heaven only as a smoke (gas). It never says that the earth was a smoke too. Actually the earth was exist:

Then turned He to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto the earth

To cut the arguments, if we look back few verses we will find this:

Pickthall [41:9] Say (O Mohammed, unto the idolaters): Disbelieve ye verily in Him Who created the earth in two Days, and ascribe ye unto Him rivals ? He (and none else) is the Lord of the orlds.

We will see that the earth have been already created. The early interpretation for [41:11]

Then turned He to the heaven

Allah went to the purpose of creating the heaven. Then he ordained it, or as Dr. Makhloof says: he finishes it in the perfect way.

Pickthall [41:12] Then He ordained them seven heavens in two Days…

Verse [79:27-30] says something else.

Pickthall [an-Nazi`at 79:27] Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built? [28] He raised the height thereof and ordered it; [29] And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof. [30] And after that He spread the earth,

I want to add this verse from the same surah to establish the next argument.

Pickthall [41:10] He placed therein firm hills rising above it, and blessed it and measured therein its sustenance in four Days, alike for (all) who ask;

If we calculate the creation days in these verses we will get 8 days.

[41:9] … created the earth in two Days …

[41:10] … and blessed it and measured therein its sustenance in four Days …

[41:12] Then He ordained them seven heavens in two Days…

The total is 8 Days?!! Should we believe these verses or this one:

Pickthall [Hud 11:7] And He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days

Is it 8 Days or 6 Days?!

Actually we had two problems with this text.

  1. Are the heavens created before the earth or vice versa?!
  2. Is the creation taken 8 days as these verses show or 6 days?!
