(57:25) Tells us that iron came to the earth in meteorites.
![]()
Pikthall [al-Hadid 57:25] ... and He revealed iron, wherein
is mighty power and (many) uses for mankind, ...
Yusufali [al-Hadid 57:25] ... and We sent down Iron, in which is (material for) mighty war, as well as many benefits for mankind,...
Shakir [al-Hadid 57:25] ... and We have made the iron, wherein
is great violence and advantages to men,...
It seem like we had a conflict here between the translators:
Pikthall says: revealed
Yusuf Ali says: sent down
Shakir says: made
But which one is closer to the original?!
Yusuf Ali translation is the literally translation for the word which mean
sent down. Shakir and Pikthall is correct too, since the word
mean revealed, made, and
create.
To arrive to a proper conclusion I think we shall compare this verse to a
similar one.

Pickthall [az-Zumar 39:6] ... and He hath provided for you
of cattle eight kinds ...
Yusufali [az-Zumar 39:6] ... and he sent down for you eight
head of cattle in pairs: ...
Shakir [az-Zumar 39:6] ... and He has made for you eight of
the cattle in pairs...
We see that the word
sent down
had the same problem here. But I doubt that any Muslim like to say that the
cattle came from heaven?! Because he will contradict the science. I want
to say it is not fair to interpretate a verse with a meaning and others with
another meaning.
